The Artist: Barry Aiken has been writing and playing music professionally for over 25 years. Barry was born in Trail, BC, Canada and raised in Northern Idaho. After stints recording and performing from San Diego to Vancouver, BC, Barry has returned to his Idaho roots. Having the experience, and know-how, he has made a home, and raised a family with his wife, Kelli and son, Brandon, in suburbia, without missing a metro-step. Along the way, teaching became very important to Barry, which led to opening his own music school in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, under his company name, BareMic. Music, where he currently teaches piano, drums and composition. He wanted to have a place where the music matters, giving music students the opportunity to perform together, focusing on jazz to pop music, in addition to traditional classical music. Barry has recorded three of his own albums. His original compositions have also been sold to music libraries for radio, TV and film placements. His music has appeared on ESPN, Regal Cinemas, and The History Channel, in addition to many others. Barry has built a reputation for high-energy performances, and in turn has generated an ever-growing and loyal fan base. Barry will be joining contemporary pop star, Gino Vannelli’s 2006 tour to promote his new album, “THESE ARE THE DAYS”. Barry will be playing tour dates in Edmonton, Alberta on July 23rd, Quebec City on August 18th, Barrie, Ontario on August 19th, and some East coast dates leading up to an appearance on the CBS Early Show in New York City on October 7th. A fall European tour is also in the works. Barry worked with Gino Vannelli on arranging and recording the backing tracks for the live show in Vannelli’s Portland studio last December, which led to the tour opportunity. In addition to touring, this composer/keyboardist is currently working on a new CD, with his recently formed band, NorthPoint. Barry will take time out of his own performing and teaching schedule to make the Vannelli tour dates. The Music: Barry’s music pulls from both modern and classic influences in the contemporary jazz and R&B genres. His music has a strong sense of feel, with melodic integrity that is hard to find these days. Groups such as Jeff Lorber, The Pat Metheny Group and the Yellowjackets inspire Barry’s instrumental compositions, while Bruce Hornsby, Steely Dan and Toto influence his vocal music. The Albums: Barry has recorded and released three CD’s, Flight 7, “Sky High” (1988), 26 West, “I Can’t Believe” (1999), and his latest CD release, titled “Balboa Park” (available http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/barryaiken). “Balboa Park” has been play listed with international contemporary and mainstream jazz stations including http://smoothjazz.com/. With the help of CDBABY, Barry’s CD’s have sold worldwide in Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan and throughout the United States. Barry will continue to teach and perform with his band, NorthPoint, in between the Gino Vannelli tour dates.
